It wins hands down. The only time you really need to use this codec is if and when you have an application which only supports this codec. In addition, this is the cracked version of the codec: the original Fraunhofer codec doesn't encode above a very low bitrate.
Fraunhofer's encoding speed is slow, but quality is very good. You can feel the difference, if you are using professional High-End sound players. Often misunderstood, Fraunhofer MP3 codec is a BROADCAST quality codec and designed to produce high quality lossless conversion, if you have the correct install, a 96kbps stereo encode with Fraunhofer codec will out strip a LAME encode any day, how I know is I have tried and studied sound engineering and my area of intrest is psyco-accoustics within audio compression codecs.
LAME at the top end tends to make high frequencys sound 'Wishy washy' and lacks proper definition. You have to weight up what you want and make your choice, what I would like is people to stop this stupid assumption that LAME is the best encoder around, the saying is true, you only get what you pay for anf if your looking at quality, Fraunhofer wins hands down, they after all are wahts used within the media and broadcasting industrys, so that alone should spaek volumes, if LAME was best, youd agree that the industry would have picked up on it in a big way, bat as it is not, they havent WinXP bit edition version ;.
Yeah, I know. I'm talking about the INF on your 1st post. I've done a search for MDGx and i see few complaints about his 'donations to understanding' Is it possible that your problems stem from another source? Well yeh, certainly my experience with MDGx could have been caused by the initial messup of the INF from this 1st post. And that certainly could have been caused by something "weird" with my install, it is after all an OEM laptop setup. The only "codec pack" that I've ever installed on this computer is ffdshow , stable only, so There is still something weird with the audio codecs, being multiples of a random from the list only to disappear after viewing the properties of the codec as well as one not showing up randomly.
The video codecs list thankfully was not effected in this way. I also had to manually put back the windowsmedia mp3 encoding rates in registry which were removed by MDGx inf. At any rate, thanks for the attention, I wish I knew more about what really happened so I could diagnose the problem and have you insert a safety routine into your inf, if that is even possible. Recent DVD Hacks. Toshiba SDJ. Pioneer DVAV. Avoid 'em! When it comes to Variable Bitrate encoding you better forget about Fraunhofer. It's just not on par with LAME. If you really want the best encoder you better read the LAME part of this tutorial.
What Fraunhofer excels in is low bitrate encoding. However, our goal is creating high bitrate thus higher quality MP3 files. Therefore I cannot provide a download location and don't mail me for one. Anyway, for a seasoned Internet user it shouldn't cost too much effort to find the Radium enhanced Fraunhofer 1.
This opens the Compression options window. Make sure Use external program for compression is disabled on the External Compression tab. Otherwise you are not able to select the Fraunhofer codec.
